There are many points in the growth and development of your business that lead the way to your business branding and graphics. At every growth point, your goal should be to understand who your target market is and how graphics engage your ideal consumer. At the startup phase and at the growth phase, one of the first things you should do is ruthlessly identify your target market.

Identifying your target market means creating a profile of your ideal consumer. Start by completing a demographic study, then create a profile that contains the following information:

  • Gender
  • Family size
  • Occupation
  • Income level
  • Digital presence
  • Color preferences
  • Level of education
  • Disposable income
  • Geographic location
  • Preferred buying methods
    (physical or digital)

Once your ideal consumer is identified, it makes creating graphics that appeal to them significantly easier. That, in turn, makes marketing to them a much smoother road because it helps identify appropriate marketing strategies and avenues. How graphics engage your ideal consumer is based on a number of factors, including color theory, the psychology of color, the meanings and symbolisms behind shapes and typography, knowledge of your industry, and an understanding of your target market.

Graphics play a role in every avenue of marketing. In designing a logo, your ideal consumer’s preferences are key. Your logo, more than reflecting your business, must speak directly to your target market. It must be one they respond to positively, recognize over time, and connect with. When it’s used on your website and social media channels, it creates a beneficial familiarity. Remember the business adage, “People do business with people and companies they know, like, and trust.” Creating graphics your target market enjoys and responds to creates this needed engagement and trust.

Once your graphic designer has created your logo, the next step should be creating a graphic design campaign. Your graphic design campaign should include every element your marketing campaign dictates. Posters, car wraps, trade show displays, decals, product tags – every item that represents your company should be emblazoned with your brand. Each piece should also contain your URL and essential contact info.

Social media posts that contain graphics and images are shown to receive as much as 87% more engagement that text-only posts. When some of these images are your own unique logo, you’ll easily familiarize your target market with your brand. Such brand recognition is invaluable.

Your retail store, coffee shop, or corporate office can also use graphic design to establish a presence. Product tags, office nameplates, indoor posters, and outdoor signage all do their part to build your brand.
