Constructive Tips For Designing The Perfect Marketing Flyer

Small business owners create marketing and informational flyers to increase brand awareness, boost product sales, or to promote a live event. A flyer is a small business marketing must-have. It turns an ordinary piece of paper into a flat brochure, an advertisement, and an information source. A marketing flyer has built-in flexibility – it’s mailable when folded into an envelope, a person to person connection source when distributed by hand, a functional flat brochure, and an information source.

Start the design process with a goal in mind. A flyer aimed at marketing and one aimed at informing will have very different designs, looks, and feels. Define the end goal of your flyers, then try using these design and marketing ideas to make your flyers vibrant, functional, and effective.

  • Include multiple points of contact. Some members of your target market might prefer calling while others will prefer email. Some will want printed information in their hand while others want to visit an easy-to-navigate website.
  • Choose colors that complement, not fight against, your industry or genre. Primary colors work for a daycare center, but not for most law firms. Similarly, muted hues work for a wellness spa, but not as well for an auto dealership.
  • Include a powerful call to action that steers flyer recipients in the direction you want then to go. If your flyer is part of a church marketing campaign, invite the reader to your upcoming service. If it’s part of a product marketing campaign, tell reader’s where to go to buy your product.
  • Treat your marketing flyer like a printed landing page. Include your logo, branding, featured product, lead magnet, and special offer. Be transparent in pricing, product features, and product benefits. Include a call to action and make your flyer clear, concise, and easy to read and understand. Use bold and italicized fonts to make your call to action stand out on the page.
  • Nostalgia and emotion are savvy selling points. They evoke memories of yesteryear and simpler times that strike an emotional note in buyers. Use that to your advantage by using the text features of our design tool to give your flyers a vintage look and feel.
  • Add an element to your flyers that make recipients want to hold on to them. Create a coloring picture on a section of your flyer for kid’s products. Kids get to enjoy the coloring project, and parents will hang the picture on the wall or refrigerator which positions your brand right in their eye space.
  • Study what’s trending in your industry or genre and stick to that general idea. Add your own touch to it to make it truly yours. Conversely, think outside the box by going in the complete opposite direction from industry standards and really get all eyes on you.
